Wheel Balancing

Round 'n' Round- Wheel Balancing

In a perfect world, all wheels and tires would be perfectly round and weigh exactly the same at every point of the wheel. Unfortunately, they're not, and if they're out of balance, they can reduce the lifespan of your tires, make your vehicle shake like a carnival ride, and maybe even damage a few suspension parts along the way. You don't want that!

Wheel balancing, sometimes known as tire balancing, is a process by which a technician ensures your tire/wheel assembly has evenly distributed weight. If it isn't, it can cause bad vibrations in your ride. If you feel your vehicle's steering wheel shaking, it can mean unbalanced wheels in the front. It could be unbalanced rear wheels if you can feel a vibration in your seats.

In addition to your vehicle vibrating at higher speeds, there are other signs that your wheels are out of balance. You may see uneven tread wear, or you may notice you aren't getting the kind of fuel economy you used to.

When you experience these problems, bring your vehicle in, and we can put your wheels on a machine designed to detect any imbalance. The technician will start your wheels spinning, and a computer will determine how much weight is needed and where. Then, the technician can add small weights on the inside or outside of your wheel rim to precisely balance out the uneven weight. When the wheel is balanced correctly, it will spin evenly and smoothly.

Sometimes, your vehicle will hit a pothole or object in the road that dislodges one of those weights, which can throw that wheel out of balance again. If so, you'll have to bring it in to have that corrected

Some drivers confuse wheel balancing with wheel alignment. Alignment ensures the wheels are perpendicular to the road and parallel with each other. Sometimes, your vehicle will need both balancing and alignment done at the same time.

No vibrations are good vibrations when it comes to your wheels. Bring your vehicle to us, and we'll perform a balancing act to keep your vehicle riding smoothly down the road.

Whether or not your exterior light bulbs are all working correctly is not at the top of your list when you think about your vehicle. But those exterior lights are more important than you think, and they're vital to your safety and that of other drivers near you. Headlights are important. Not only do they help you see safely down the road at night, but they also help oncoming drivers know that the vehicle they're approaching is not a motorcycle. Both headlights should be working correctly and aimed so that they don't blind other drivers. Taillights are also crucial for a few reasons. They inform drivers of your intentions (such as changing lanes, turning, or stopping). Therefore, the bulbs in the back must be in working order for maximum safety, and the same applies to the front turn signal lights. They alert oncoming drivers to your lane changes or turns (if you use your turn signals!). Some side mirrors also contain turn signal bulbs. There are a few other essential bulbs. You may not care about the ones that illuminate your rear license plate, for example. However, they are there to assist public safety forces in identifying your vehicle. In fact, in many municipalities, you can be pulled over and ticketed if ANY of the standard lights are burned out. So, not only does having all your exterior lights working improve your vehicle's safety, but it may also keep you from getting a ticket. Many newer vehicles have a light on the instrument panel that will go on if onboard computers detect voltage problems in any of your vehicle's bulb circuits. Sometimes, it can be hard to figure out which light may not be working since there are so many. Sometimes, it's simply a matter of replacing a bulb, but it may be an electrical problem causing the problem. Stay legal and safe by having your service repair facility diagnose and fix a non-working light. It's a bright idea.
